Camp Counselors

If you are interested in helping in the education and support of enthusiastic young musicians, we encourage you to apply to the counseling staff for Summer Music Clinic.

UW–Madison Summer Music Clinic counselors are role models who provide support for a large number of young people participating in band, orchestra, choir, musical theater and jazz ensembles.

Staff members need to be vibrantly interested in working with students in middle school and/or high school. Counselors need not be majoring in music or be musicians but should be enthusiastic about music and/or music education.

There is a mandatory counselor orientation and training prior to camp. All counselors must attend all required training sessions; there are no exceptions. Details including dates to be announced in early 2022.

Summer Music Clinic

Training

The UW–Madison Office of Youth Protection and Compliance requires the following training for any UW employees working with minors. These classes are available throughout the academic year on campus:

  • CPR/First Aid/AED
  • Youth Protection
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid
  • Mandated Reporter Training
  • Preventing Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence at UW–Madison
  • Campus Security Authority

How to apply

Applicants should be at least four years older than the oldest camper. For Junior Session, our oldest camper is typically 15 years old; for Senior Session, our oldest participants are 17-18 years old.

Two non-family references are required of new SMC counselors, along with a completed application form.

All counselors are required to stay in the dorms with the students for the duration of the camp.
